The Bangladesh Rural Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Human Capital Development (BD Rural WASH for HCD) Project is a major initiative aiming to improve access to clean water and sanitation facilities in rural Bangladesh. 

Project Goal:

  • Improve access to safely managed water supply and sanitation in selected rural areas.
  • Strengthen the capacity of institutions involved in water and sanitation services.

Project Duration: July 2022 - June 2024

Implementing Agencies:

  • Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE)
  • Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) 

Project Activities:

  • Providing households with loans for water supply improvements and sanitation facilities.
  • Supporting local entrepreneurs through loans to develop WASH markets.
  • Implementing a behaviour change communication (BCC) campaign to promote hygiene practices.
  • Strengthening the WASH market service system

Overall Impact:

The BD WASH for HCD project contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, which focuses on ensuring access to water and sanitation for all. By improving access to clean water and sanitation, the project aims to improve public health and well-being, ultimately leading to better human capital development in rural Bangladesh.
