Like many parts of Bangladesh, the under ground water of CCDA working area is highly contaminated with arsenic. On realizing the potential danger of prevalence of arsenic, CCDA in cooperation with NGO Forum started to set-up alternative technology to ensure arsenic-free drinking water on cost-sharing basis. These technologies include rain water harvesting and arsenic-iron removal plant. Supplying rainwater through pipeline among the community people at door step level on pilot basis is an important feature for CCDA activities. The program, one of the very few in Bangladesh, is running successfully, thanks to the active participation and cooperation of the community. On the other hand, CCDA has been implementing sanitation project through providing both hardware and software services among the community to complement the millennium goal of Bangladesh Government with the assistance of NGO-Forum. Hardware service includes manufacturing as well as distributing slab latrine (Low cost water sealed), while software is developing awareness and motivating people for use of improved latrines. Total coverage of beneficiaries under WATSAN stands at more than 10,000 families.
CCDA recently completed another project Enhancing Governance and Capacity of Service Providers and Civil Society in Water Supply and Sanitation Sector in 2 unions as Radhanagar and Gobindhapur under Meghna upazilla in Comilla district. Main activities of the project to local government capacity buildup, aware community people, provided safe water drinking and uses sanitary latrine (toilet).
